Glossary Definition

AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)

/ˌeɪ.iː.ˈoʊ/ noun

The practice of structuring content so AI-powered answer engines — Google AI Overviews, voice search, featured snippets — extract and serve it as the direct answer to a user's question without requiring a click.

AEO differs from traditional SEO in that the goal is not ranking in a list of links but becoming the cited source inside the answer itself. Core tactics include answer-first paragraph structure, FAQPage schema markup, and question-based H2 headings.
